WATCH: Veteran receives High School Diploma after 47 years

It was a moment that Roberto Garza had put off for over 40 years, but thanks to encouragement from his son, Roberto finally graduated from high school.

After dropping out of high school in 1971 to enlist in the army, he thought that that was the end of his education. When he entered adulthood he felt he couldn’t go back to school due to his age.

His son began researching the ways he could go back to school, and they found that the Texas Education code outlines that if a person had to leave school to fight for their country, they may be issued a high school diploma.

“Everyone here gets to see their kids. I get to see my dad. It’s just awesome,” his son beams.

The whole family proudly watched Roberto collect his diploma at the high school he attended 47 years ago.

He now plans to become a Texas Peace Officer, just like his dad would have wanted.

Roberto's remarkable story shows that it's never too late to fulfill your goals.
